Fun article. Zingers are superior to the twinkie. I would always peel off the frosting and eat it first, couldn't help myself. Raspberry Zingers, the most underrated snack cake of all time. True classic.
Hey Retroist, did you try out those Coke flavored Oreo's? Or the Oreo flavored coke? What did you think?
That's what I've been hearing, "just ok". I was afraid to commit to a whole package of them, when the classic ones are just right there, haha. By the way I didn't even notice, that drawing was a sketch of Snoopy. I honestly thought it was just an online jpeg.
The oreo coke is meh. It's like you drink it and say “Oh, I kinda get how thats oreo flavor.” I mean, I like weird sodas. But it's one of those “huh, interesting” sodas not “omg so good!” sodas.
Showing my age here, but when Zingers originally came out, those were the raspberry-coconut and orange-vanilla ones. For a very short time, the chocolate ones had the separate brand name of “Zangers,” and those ads on Peanuts specials promoted both circa 1972. I never heard the story of why the Zangers name was discontinued, but I keep waiting for Dolly Madison to bring it back one day.
Your point about songs getting a second life after being used on movies and television reminded me of Daria. The use of a wide variety of current music gave Daria an authentic atmosphere. This combined with excellent writing and stellar voice acting made for one of the best North American animated shows
The original Outpost Daria listed a bunch of the songs they used on the show. Thanks to them, I even discovered my favorite lost treasure of a song, "Numb" by Fat, from their only album "Fat" from 1997 (not to be confused with a different band and album, both named "Fat" from 1970)
The list were really helpful, since the show tended to use song clips of a few seconds
Even if a kid goes to Galaxy's Edge at Disney and has a parent willing to drop $250 to build their own lightsaber, they won't get one that retracts. Weird that they wouldn't want to sell the retractable kind somewhere in their parks. One thing is for sure, they would charge a hell of a lot more than $60.
I agree about the Raspberry Zingers! Deliciousness! I remember that McDonald's one for sure.

I did have both of them. I liked the concept, but I thought they needed more flavor and a lot more popping candy.
Did you get to try them?

Well summarized.
I don't draw very much, but when I do, it has to be Snoopy.
Not sure I’ve ever had one of these… but now I must have one!
I hope you enjoy them!
It will be more than one :)

Love this comment! I learned some new stuff. I am a big fan of orange/vanilla. I really would like to have tried those.
Glad to be of assistance. I’ve spent the last half-century being accused of making up Zangers, but they were real, at least for one year.
Hi! I love your posts! Do you accept pitches? I used to write for @Retrofied but they discontinued their publication. :(

A lot more, but it would definitely be the version that every kid would want. I look forward to seeing the tech evolve.
