I miss those Roy Rogers on the turnpike. Now that I think about when we went to Roy Rogers as kids the big draw was putting our own toppings on the burgers. I don't think we ever tried the chicken or roast beef. I guess we missed out in our eagerness to put as many pickles as we wanted on our burgers.
OK, I'm going out on a limb here, but I swear that red-headed kid in the commercial is J.D. Roth. I recognize him from a short Riffed on Rifftrax: "Oh, Boy! Babies!"
Also, the people in that commercial need to be force-fed valium. Was everyone hopped up on cocaine?
Thanks for sharing about this awesome ticket game. My family went to Roy's around that time -- we were a roast beef sandwich kinda crew -- but I don't recall this contest. Maybe they didn't run the game in my part of NJ, but more likely, my parents kept me from learning about it so I wouldn't pester them for constant trips to Roy's.
The ads are great. There's a gal in the background of the first scene, standing next to the Ms. Pac-Man machine gesturing in an unusual manner...at first I thought she was providing a sign language translation, but after rewatching, I don't think this is the case. Just excited for her game pieces, I guess.
In one of the shots of Ms. Pac-Man chomping food around the perimeter of the game board, it looks like she's eating a cherry flavored Rita's Italian Ice, but that must be a fantasy in my head... roast beef sandwich with an Italian ice chaser.
Speaking of fantasies, I bet that that prize-sundae was one of the best you've ever had, if only because of the story attached.
Win Ms. Pac-Man at Roy Rogers 🍗

I am so glad you spotted that person doing the gesturing in the background. I wasn't sure what to make of it.
