Reading this makes me want to dig out my stamp collection. The art on these stamps really captures the fact that the Olympics are world games, there is nothing that makes the images particularly American.
Up until these stamps, most of my stamps were gifts or ones I had gotten from delivered mail. These were the first I went out of my way to get. They were inspiring and so representational of the games.
I remember spotting a poster for these at the post office! It was the first time I saw soccer referred to as football. The dynamic depictions of athletes feature both the character of their time and a universal quality. My family was one of many who had the stamps. Sending a letter with one of these sweet images affixed was a fun way to celebrate the Olympics.

I hope they release something similar for the 2018 games in LA.
