I actually got a $5 can back then and it was quite startling! I hadn't heard of the contest yet and I popped open the can right next to my face only to be boinked in the cheak by a rolled up $5 bill. We were completely shocked.
Forgive me if there's been a post on this: OK Soda had merch inside of cans that looked a lot like the real OK Soda cans in the vending machine in my high school cafeteria. I was poised to spend several dollars til I got one, but I got the first can out of the machine after the delivery guy finished up and it contained an OK Soda hat and three quarters taped inside so I could still get a refreshing beverage.
I liked OK Soda a lot, and I have thought about writing about it a few times. I remember reading about the contest, but never found OK Soda in any of the vending machines that were around me at the time.
It would be fun if Coke brought it back for a limited run.
Once again this is something I knew absolutely nothing about, I expect in large part because we did not drink soda at home. We'd have it with Burger King or pizza take out, and when we did happen to have some in the house it was usually a 2-liter

What a cool memory to have. I can only imagine how weird that would have been.

It was a dangerous time back in the '90s - not even soda cans were safe . . .
