Suncoast is familiar to me, although I don't think they were in Canada. I believe I bought a bunch of DVDs and a lava lamp (a real one, not the rip-offs - it was $90!) there, in Seattle, which I smuggled back across the border to avoid the Duty fees.
I worked in retail for 17 years, and loved how a "family" of coworkers could develop - I have such good memories of a few of the stores.

We sold a surprising number of lamps at our location. Usually selling out each month. The two most popular were the lava lamp and a lamp that looked like a film camera. The latter was probably our most returned item. They were just very poorly made.
Working in retail is tough and it has some negatives, but people tend to gloss over any positives. I did a decade or so in retail and it was probably the most socially enjoyable work I got to do, especially at Suncoast.

My lamp is still going strong, 30 years later!
Agreed, I loved retail aside from the low pay, sucky hours and asshole customers.ЁЯШБ 17 years in the trenches for me!
