So much Suddenly Salad!
Let's take a trip down memory lane to the late 1980s, a time when my family's dinner table was filled with culinary obsessions. You see, we had a family trait of fixating on particular foods once we discovered them. If a new soup hit the stores and I liked it, you could bet that soup would become a regular feature in my meals for weeks on end. But little did I know that the Suddenly Salad Phase of 1988 was about to descend upon us.
During that period, my sister took over as the family cook and she had quite the talent in the kitchen. We were treated to a variety of interesting home-cooked meals on a nightly basis, and we grew accustomed to her culinary prowess. However, life started getting more chaotic for her, leaving little time for elaborate meals. That's when she discovered Suddenly Salad, a product that seemed like a convenient solution to our dinner woes.
Suddenly Salad became the star of our dinner table. For nearly two months, we found ourselves facing a seemingly endless rotation of Suddenly Salad-based meals. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Hamburger Helper and Manwiches, but the novelty of Suddenly Salad wore thin after a while. We all secretly longed for the madness to end, but we were also quite lazy and reluctant to voice our concerns. Instead, we resorted to complaining behind my sister's back, hoping for a change.
Then, one fateful day, our prayers were answered. My sister, seemingly weary of the Suddenly Salad monotony, made an announcement at the dinner table, "I am getting tired of this stuff, how about I make something else tomorrow?" Oh, the sigh of relief that swept through our family was palpable. Finally, we were escaping the clutches of Suddenly Salad.
After that, Suddenly Salad vanished from our dinner rotation. We never had it again. To this day, we still jokingly bring up the Suddenly Salad Phase to my sister, and she either feigns ignorance or dismisses us as ungrateful. In hindsight, I can't help but feel a twinge of guilt for complaining about someone who kept us well-fed. Yet, I can't help but wish that if my sister had fixated on a food, it could have been something like Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal or Bomb Pops—foods that would have brought more joy to our taste buds.
So, there you have it—the tale of our culinary saga with Suddenly Salad. It serves as a reminder of the quirks and idiosyncrasies that can arise when it comes to family meals. While we may chuckle about it now, it's a memory that still brings a mix of gratitude, laughter, and a craving for a more adventurous food fixation.
