In 87 I left for university but before then I used to frequent a tiny computer software shop. The shop was called Mr Micro but we just called the owner Jim.
That was his name.
It was a regular corner shop on a terrace of housing. Upstairs there was a coding sweat shop. I was just a little teen kiddy then. Dead keen. I met a guy there who had come to talk to Jim about software coding for other platforms. The guy was Dave Braben.
I loved computers and tech and fantasy. But my career pathway was biosciences and that determined my life from... well... the start I guess.
I'm loving your story. It's just the way it was for so many of us. God I miss it. I miss the simplicity. The wide eyed wonder.
I don't know this game.
For me it was back in ~'80-'87.
