Coming Soon the Pontiac P-Car (Fiero)
Take a look at this cool picture promoting the Pontiac P-Car from way back in 1982. You know, they weren't even sure what to call the car yet! The picture suggests they were thinking of naming it "Sunfire," but they ended up using that name for a different Pontiac car in 1995. The name they were originally going to use was "Pegasus," which you can see on the winged horse emblem on the car. But they changed their minds because they were worried people might not know how to say "Pegasus." It seems a bit silly, especially when you consider the name they ended up choosing: the Pontiac Fiero (1984-1988).
In my town, the Pontiac Fiero became really popular. I remember when they first came out, there were four of them on my block alone! The owners were so proud of their shiny new red cars. They would spend a lot of time cleaning and waxing them, making sure they looked perfect.
For a deep and interesting look at the history of this car, I recommend you read Kill Your Darlings: The Birth and Death of the Pontiac Fiero over at the Ate Up with Motor blog.
