My cabbage patch kid was named Xavier because of the Xavier Roberts tattoo on the butt. I didn’t know the reason for the signature at the time and just thought it was the doll’s name.

Makes sense, I often named my stuffed animals after what was on the tag, with few exceptions.

It would be great to talk to someone who worked in a Toys R' Us back then to hear about the craziness of the CPK. My best friend's mother worked in a TRU and she was able to secure one for my mother to give to me.

I don't think most people who have worked retail love to talk about their jobs, but I can talk someone's ear off asking way too many questions if they let me.

My CPK's name was (is) Stephanie Rose. I thought it was odd that my friend's older sister had the exact same name. Did she also get birthed by a cabbage?

The CPKs were such a big deal when I got mine, around Christmas 1984, that my parents weren't allowed to pick out their own at the Toys”R”Us. Rather, they were handed a mysterious brown paper bag containing a CPK selected by the store. They had to purchase it sight unseen. Apparently there was too much demand for certain dolls, with parents choosing ones that resembled their own children, so the shop went with a more egalitarian, anonymous approach. Stephanie had orange hair and blue eyes...mine are brown and hazel. I never minded not resembling my doll. Frankly, my Mom was more into the trend than I was. That Christmas, I preferred my new sled. Still, I did enjoy dressing her in clothes meant for real babies.

That Cabbage Patch video is precious! "My sister thinks she came from a cabbage." 😂

My sisters owned Cabbage Patch Kids when we were young- I had nothing to do with them, as they had little to do with my toys.

But I'm very glad to see cathode ray tube TVs are still around and working, as they should be.
