Gaming is a weird beast among the nerdly arts. There isn't a big secondary collector's market, but a lot of sellers keep trying to start one. If you want original copies of old AD&D books keep looking. You'll eventually find affordable ones. They might not be in pristine shape, but they'll be usable. Game book prices are all over the map. I've often gone looking through ebay and found like, two dozen auctions for a book I wanted priced over $100, and one in the middle at $15. DTRpg.com is a great option. There are also a lot of old school D&D "retroclones;" streamlined versions of pretty much every edition of the old game. "Iron Falcon" is a decent stripped down AD&D clone, if someone wants just a taste.
D&D is one of my happiest memories from my teen years, and I keep meaning to play again. (Over Zoom?) I have my old books thank goodness, but I’d love to get a DMs Guide and some modules—what a great use for print on demand!
I played D&D for a few years with my best friends. Some great times. I've seen these books sky rocket. I've seen a few in the wild but in poor condition. I saw your Note image that you posted, brought back some great nostalgia for sure!
Spent many hours playing AD&D and rolling up ...dice with the Bros and Sisters of my youth. Car Wars was another that we had great times with, especially due to the Mad Max, Road Warrior fixation we all had as teens.
- Dungeon modules: A1 - Slave Pits of the Undercity; B1 - In Search of the Unknown; B2 - The Keep on the Borderlands; Q1 - Queen of the Demonweb Pits; S3 - Expedition to the Barrier Peaks; T1 - The Village of Hommlet
Dude - that old Canadian news clip about D&D and their nemesis, B.A.D.D. ("Bothered About Dungeons & Dragons") is awesome! I didn't know that DriveThruRPG has AD&D 1e - nice find. Also, thank you for the shout-out.

Great advice. I have played a few streamlined and cleaned up versions and they are very satisfying.

It is great you held onto them! Hope you get that DMG.

So great to have those memories. Around a table playing with friends makes for some amazing memories back in the day (and now).

Car Wars was great! We tried to be very creative in our vehicles.
It really got out of hand when I added Truck Stop and we started drawing up our own cards. Ahhh, the days before internet.
I’m currently running a campaign in a variety of editions . I play over Skype
Still have my original editions (from 1979-80):
- Basic AD&D box
- Player's Handbook
- Dungeon Master's Guide
- Monster Manual
- Dungeon modules: A1 - Slave Pits of the Undercity; B1 - In Search of the Unknown; B2 - The Keep on the Borderlands; Q1 - Queen of the Demonweb Pits; S3 - Expedition to the Barrier Peaks; T1 - The Village of Hommlet
- Fiend Folio (from 1981)
- Also, my original dice (d20, d12, d8, d6, d4)!
Are they the original Holmes Dice?
I have all those books, because I play dungeons and dragons monthly
Nice! Are you running a game or participating as a player?
