In the last picture, the mall photography, how much of the gold hue was from the original lighting and how much us the natural yellowing of color photos?
That is a good question. I am sure age contributes a little, but I did go to a few older malls in the 90s before they redid them and took some photos and they all had a dimmer more golden light in the common areas (probably dimmer because of the materials used for decoration as well). Of course, when you took the photo mattered if they had skylights, but I didn't see a lot of those until malls that were built much later.
From 1981 to 2007 I worked in a local restaurant with this vibe. Carpeted floors with oak beadboard paneling. Brass front doors from an old bank. Brass railing we would polish daily topped everything. A cheers bar hub in the middle. Antiques and nostalgia on the walls everywhere. I dream of it often. If it hadn’t gone off the rails I’d still be there.
I remember frequenting many similar establishments back in the 1970s and 1980s. We had a number of "Ye Olde Publick Houses" made up in dark wood paneling, dim lights, red cushioned booths and bar stools. Brass rails, low, easy rock music in the background or even a jukebox or two. Some had communal coat and hat racks by the dark windowed airlock type double doors. Smoking or non-smoking? The barrier was barely noticeable. I worked in one of those bar restaurantsin the 1980s. Great times. I miss those places tremendously.

I remember when Pizza Hut used to be cozy
Step number one lighting. Starship white LED light is everywhere now and it has changed the look of everything by removing warmth.
There are still dark bars. Maybe not in your bougie world.
