Excited to listen to this podcast. I loved the show as a kid. My dad was a drummer in a rock band in the 60’s and 70’s and had a regular gig in San Fransisco. Peter Tork would frequent, give my dad’s band some ideas and would actually all hang out after at his place. I didn’t know this until recently. When I was a kid both my mom and dad mentioned they had been friends with him before I was born, mentioning it when they saw me watching and enjoying shows in the early 80’s, but they never expanded on it. Part of me wonders… booze and pot? 😂 In high school I worked at a movie theatre and he quickly came in once, and ducked inside while I think his wife bought the tickets. I didn’t get a chance to say anything. He struck me as the quiet one on the show and he was very much that in passing.
I loved the Monkees when I was a kid! I first saw their show in reruns, and remember when Davy Jones guested on The Brady Bunch (swoon!). Also a Mike Nesmith fan - he wore a toque, he was the quirkiest, his mom invented Liquid Paper, and I've heard he's one of the only ones who was actually a musician. (No, I did not listen to your podcast, apologies).
I too am a big Nesmith fan. Live at McCabe’s is one of my favorites.

Its really cool that you got to get a glimpse of your parents' early life. I have heard that he liked to partake, even on set.

Nesmith wrote a lot of good songs. Amazingly the Monkees didn't pick up his Different Drum, but lucky for us Linda Ronstadt did and made it amazing.
I love that song!
