Mahalo for this cool article!

I never ate this, but I vaguely remember the commercials. When you mentioned that attempt to appeal to price conscious customers, it reminded me of the "Carryout for Literacy" program that I think was only available here in Hawaii

You'd pay I think $10 for a card, good for 1 year, which allowed you to BOGO any takeout pizza. I'm guessing it was spun off from the free personal pan pizza coupons schools gave to students for reading

Anyway, for folks like me, I imagine value proposition of the Big Foot was probably less appealing than the "Carryout for Literacy" card since one could use it with pizzas of any size or toppings

I hadn't heard of the Carryout for Literacy program. Just looked it up and it looks like it started in 1992. What a great idea that was. Double Pizza for a one time signup on $10 is pretty cool.

Yeah, and proceeds from the sales of the card went to local charities for reading programs for students

Customers got a more affordable price on pizza (a large Super Supreme typically sold for about $25 ala carte) while the restaurants got more sales. Win win for everyone involved

I evn used to recommend it to tourists with lots of kids to feed, since BOGO meant they could gt different sets of toppings
