"Animalypics" was an amazing idea, and I felt they exercised it well. There was an extra layer of interest if you knew that the sportscaster were all meant to be parodies of the crew at ABC Sports (Jim McKay, Howard Cosell, Keith Jackson etc.), which dominated sports coverage on TV from the '60s right into the '80s.
Battle of the Network Stars is peak 70's/80's nonsense television. They tried reviving it years ago but it just didn't have the same silly chaos. The best part was seeing which actors were taking it way too seriously and who was there for whatever hookups and coke could be found. That campus for Pepperdine is unreal, how do those students get anything done with all that staring them in the face?
It must have made for some amazing days on campus. I got to ask Patrick Duffy some questions when I did a podcast about The Man from Atlantis and I asked him about Battle of the Network Stars and he confirmed they had a really good time there.

Yes! It was so timely and the voice talent did a great job capturing it. Wish they had been able to make more Animalympics.
Great post, I remember so many of the Olympic events from the 80s, especially Carl Lewis and Mary Lou Retton events!
Legends, they really captured the imagination of everyone watching them on TV.
