I remember seeing those commercials. In 1982 I with some fellow students drove there after midnight intending to climb it from the outside, but it was inaccessible.

That would have been the stuff of legends if you could have pulled it off.

As a non-American, I appreciate the map, thank you! What an interesting tale of a tourist attraction! We had a Haunted House in my city, along with a "Land of the Little People' miniature village and railway, and Fable Cottage, a fairy-tale-like house with surrounding grounds filled with gnomes doing rote mechanical movement (like a see-saw). Funny how that was "a thing" in the late 70s, early 80s!

Thank you for sharing this little bit of your personal history! A fascinating article.

A remarkable insight into a lost era of American entertainment history.

I recall the commercials for this as well as the Haunted Mansion, I long assumed they were the same place. The image of the headless woman haunted me, of course I know now that the effect was done with mirrors. The performer had to tilt their head back to an uncomfortable angle for the illusion, no one enjoyed sitting for that one.

Always happy to read about the Brig. I never went there but have enjoyed audio clips posted from the attraction for years.
