Let’s openly love our sun-loving selves. Let’s renew our communal love of rich, vibrantly colored emollients that smell like summer and trigger sweet memories.
Does anyone remember the chocolate brown gel type bronzer made by Bain de Soleil? It was in a short fat dark brown tube. It was my favorite product since it was great to use after tanning to darken or enhance the tan. It wasn’t a tanner and washed off in the shower. I’ve tried to find something similar for years.
Hey! That’s Ali McGraw, actress/model, on her elbows and knees looking into the camera with a white sunhat. She was my model/idol: I in grade school, she high school age, modeling in Seventeen and Glamour
Thanks so much for sharing that memory, Nancy! Ali MacGraw really had (and still has!) such a timeless, natural beauty, I can see why she was such an inspiration. Those vintage Seventeen and Glamour spreads had a magic all their own, didn’t they? It’s amazing how a single ad or image can bring back such vivid memories. So glad you stopped by and commented!
For those seeking the scent of Bain de Soleil- it does exist! There is a line with a body oil called Poolside 1978 by Goldenbush.co. - it somehow smells more like bain de soleil than bain de soleil. There's even a candle.
One thing about Bain de Soleil: they had the world's greatest TV commercial! As for the product tanning in general means damaging the skin, and the darker the tan the more damage.
Thanks for the reminder about the fabulous commercial! It was accidentally dropped when we moved the post to Substack, but we just added it back in, so I'm glad you mentioned it. You're right, it's the best!

Added some advertising to the article that includes an image of the Bronzer.
I had no idea they offered leg makeup! The company was ahead of its time.
Thank You!
