Peanut Butter Brand Loyalty – My Internal Struggle Against Peter Pan Peanut Butter

My family ate Jif peanut butter when I was a kid and to this day I still buy Jif. I have a jar of creamy in my kitchen cabinet right now, just waiting to be converted into peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Brand loyalty though wasn’t easy for my mother to instill in me because I love advertising characters and every time we walked down the peanut butter aisle as a kid, my eyes were drawn straight to Peter Pan Peanut Butter. Just like I still cannot stop and look at Donald Duck OJ nowadays, even though I know I will buy Tropicana.

I was looking at new ads in the Retroist Image Pool this morning when the same thing that happens in stores, happened there. I saw a bunch of Peanut Butter ads, but I was instantly drawn to this Peter Pan one uploaded by gairid1791. Should I just give in? When will this end!

Forgive my ignorance, but is that supposed to be Peter on the label or a generic Mother to serve it to her kids? Because if it’s Peter, he isn’t looking to manly sporting those high heel shoes and dress? Just sayin’.

I am also a Jiff man and have never had Peter Pan Peanut Butter, but everytime I see it at the supermarket, I want to buy it just because it’s Peter Pan. #grownupkids

  3. @twilitezoner My guess is that when you have Peter Pan, you instantly half transform into a Pseudo Pan.

@Ryan Jiff is a great Peanut Butter, do not give in…well maybe once.

  4. Well, I have to speak up for Peter Pan peanut butter. Now I started to enjoy it because I forced my Grandmother to pick it up because of Walt Disney’s Peter Pan being on the label! If it was good enough for the boy who refused to grow up it’s good enough for me.

@retroist You…you can still buy Donal Duck OJ? You live in a magical place, friend…sniff…a magical place. ;)

Am I the only JIF fan who knows how to spell it correctly?

    J (Jay) I (Eye) F (Eff).

    JIF. Choosy mothers choose JIF.

(I prefer Jif because the slogan I remember makes reference to Frank Zappa’s Original Band).

But in all honesty, while I like Jif, I also like Peter Pan, Skippy, and Smuckers. That being said, we usually get the Kroger brand because it tastes as good as the others and it’s usually on sale for cheap.

And cheap is my middle name.

  7. Badwolf..what makes me feel even dumber is that the jar of Jif is currently ON MY DESK…right next to my monitor. I has some this morning and I still did not spell it correctly.

Choosy spellers learn how to spell Jif!

We have Jif in the fridge right now. Was going to try to formulate some sort of Peanut Butter ice cream sauce from it last night, then thought better of it. Peanut Butter is a great way to stretch the food budget.
