GamePro TV was a syndicated gem of a video game TV show that graced our screens from 1991 through 1992. The show, ably helmed by the affable J. D. Roth, and briefly joined by co-host Brennan Howard, was a weekly dose of gaming goodness that sent ripples of excitement through the hearts of gamers across the nation. Each episode was a delightful journey into the captivating world of 16-bit video game systems that were all the rage in the early 1990s—think NES, Super NES, Game Boy, Sega Genesis, and TurboGrafx-16.

One of the show's standout features was its interactive element, offering ample opportunities for viewer participation. Through viewer mail and submitted tips and tricks, gamers felt like they were part of a larger gaming community, eagerly sharing their knowledge and insights. It was a true celebration of the camaraderie that gaming fosters.

However, despite its genuine appeal and the fervor of its fan base, GamePro TV faced a grim fate. The recipe for success didn't quite pan out, and the show met an untimely cancellation. But as the saying goes, when one door closes, another one opens.

In a somewhat unexpected twist, the series saw a brief resurrection, albeit in a different form. This time around, it morphed into a paid advertisement program, with J. D. Roth returning as the sole host. The program ran for a half-hour, but it was primarily an advertisement for GamePro Magazine, serving as a bridge between television and print media. This incarnation of the show, while fleeting, added another layer to its multifaceted history.

Alas, as time marched on, GamePro TV faded into the annals of gaming history. Yet, for those who had the pleasure of experiencing it during its initial run, the memories remain vivid and cherished. It was a show that brought the excitement of video games right into our living rooms, a beacon of enthusiasm in the ever-evolving landscape of gaming culture.

For those who missed out on GamePro TV's initial run, you missed a captivating journey through the 16-bit gaming era, a time when pixels and controllers held an indelible place in our hearts. It was more than just a TV show; it was a glimpse into a passionate gaming community, a testament to the enduring love for video games, and a reminder that gaming transcends screens and generations.

Unless you lived in the 1930s or are a fan of vintage comic strips you might not be aware of the attempted Mickey Mouse suicide.
