On this show we will discuss the full synopsis for The Odds. As well as the rather amazing cast featured in the 1984 episode. Such as the likes of Danny Aiello (Moonstruck) and Tom Noonan (The Monster Squad) to start with. Of course we talk a bit about the other cast and crew who helped to make The Odds such a memorable episode.

Saturday Frights Podcast Ep. 65 (Halloween Special IV)

What can you expect from the Saturday Frights Halloween Special IV? How about a visit to the Haunted Drive-In for a movie marathon? Furthermore, the Projectionist and myself are joined by a host of friends this time. All gathered to discuss that maestro of horror, Stephen King! We cover the likes of his books, film adaptations and even TV miniseries. Of course since we are at the Haunted Drive-In, you can expect plenty of surprises and vintage audio treats.
Halloween Special IV - King

For the Halloween Special IV, we are joined by I See Robots, Allison L. Venezio, Ashley Thomas aka The Nerdy Blogger, Rockford Jay, Gino Vega, and of course the Retroist. I ask you, what better time to discuss Stephen King than on Halloween?

As for what we cover on the Saturday Frights Podcast Halloween Special IV. It ranges from Cujo to the The Running Man.Pet Sematary and The Ramones – up to the author’s influence on the hit series Stranger Things. I think we have certainly thrown a wide net on King’s work. However I feel there is one movie in particular that managed to plant seeds of fear with more than one of us.
Halloween Special IV - Church

We hope you will listen and share your own King memories in the comments section!

If you have any suggestions for topics you would like for us to cover in the future, email them to me at VicSage@Retroist.com. You can also contact me on Twitter and on Facebook.

Saturday Frights - Tobe Hooper

Saturday Frights Podcast Ep. 64 (Tobe Hooper)

With the passing of Tobe Hooper on August 26th of 2017, the pantheon of horror legends has grown smaller. I certainly made sure to share my shock and disbelief at the passing of Tobe Hooper on Facebook. However after talking it over with the Projectionist we came to a decision. To venture back into the Retroist Vault and record this special episode, one focusing on the works of Tobe Hooper.
Tobe Hooper - The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

I realize of course that Tobe Hooper is probably best remembered for his 1974 film, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Of course this is rightfully so. But in all honesty he was behind the camera for many more excellent horror films as well as TV series.

  • Salem’s Lot
  • The Funhouse
  • Poltergeist
  • Lifeforce
  • The Texas Chain Saw Massascre 2
  • Tales from the Crypt
  • Masters of Horror

Granted there is in fact a debate on who actually directed 1982’s Poltergeist. As the Projectionist and I brought up back 27 episode ago. Thankfully for you, the listeners, this is…mostly…avoided this go around.

Furthermore we have a special guest segment for this show. We are joined by none other than Daniel XIII! Whose reviews are easily found over on the That’s Not Current spot on the internet.

If you have any suggestions for topics you would like for us to cover in a future special. Or possibly you have comments on the current show, email them to me at VicSage@Retroist.com. You can also contact me on Twitter and on Facebook.

The theme used at the beginning of the episode was provided by Peachy (The Benjamin Wallfisch of Wales), if you have musical needs why not contact him at peachy@Retroist.Com. And be sure to “like” him on his Facebook page…before he goes to investigate what makes Sawyer chili so delicious!

Saturday Frights

Saturday Frights Podcast Ep. 63 (Concession Stand)

Hello, friends. While this was intended to be a Saturday Frights Podcast episode discussing Night of the Meek. As I could certainly not think of a better Twilight Zone episode than that one. A drunken shopping mall Santa played by Art Carney who is saved at his time of need. All thanks to a little gift, a sign of the compassion one can find in The Twilight Zone.

As I just stated. That was my original intent. However, Life finds away of changing plans. Of snapping your attention to things you didn’t realize. Such a thing happened to me today. Due to overworking I had inadvertently hurt the feelings of a loved one. All is good, friends. My personal story doesn’t have an unhappy ending or anything like that.

This isn’t the end of my contributing to The Retroist. It is however the end of the Saturday Frights Podcast as well as the Diary of an Arcade Employee, Projectionist’s Sinister Tales of Terror and Retro Radio Memories podcasts.

So I felt I should record a little something. A thank you as a matter of fact and a little reason as to why I am ceasing producing those shows. As an aside I will be continuing the Facebook pages for both Saturday Frights and the Diary. As there is a wonderful community that has been built up there.

Happy Holidays and thank you.

I want to thank Metagirl for her wonderful help with the intro to the show of late. As well as to Tony Longworth and of course to Peachy for their fantastic music. I also need to thank Daniel XIII for his sage advice. Of course I cannot thank the Retroist himself enough – for always being there to help guide the show and for being such a friend.
