The Frost Giant, as captured by Bill Willingham, is grim and terrifying. Let's take a look at its AD&D Monster Card art and other early examples of this Norse flavored early D&D monster.
Astroblast was the Astromash port for the Atari 2600. It is a delightful instance of a port of a game, despite having lower graphics, is actually better than the original.
The DIsplacer Beast is a terrifying space-shifting feline that has been around for the entire time Dungeons & Dragons has existing. So let's take a look at the Monster Card that was released for it in 1982 and learn a little bit about the origins of this iconic creature.
Released in 1983, Assault is a decent game from Bomb. It is fast based with good graphics and interesting gameplay. I am happy to have it in my Atari collection.
The Giant Constrictor Snake is a powerful serpent that does not get much attention from the Monster Manual. In the AD&D Monster cards though, it gets a beautiful color illustration by the unmistakable Erol Otus.
Artillery Duel is a wonderfully made game filled with lots of features and solid Atari graphics. Unfortunately it is also painfully slow. Which makes it fun to try, but does not add much in the way replayability.
A legendary creature from mythology that is half human and half horse WITH art by Jeff Dee? Enjoy the AD& Centaur Monster card. It is amazing.
Alpha Beam with Ernie for the Atari 2600 is an attractive title with interesting graphics and quality sound. Unfortunately it lacks anything resembling real gameplay. This game was targeted at children, but I think anything above a toddler will get bored quickly.
The Barbed Devil was no joke. It is a challenge to even the most seasoned of adventurers. It is also, because of the Satanic Panic around Dungeons & Dragons, one the most polarizing cards from Set 1 of the AD&D Monster Cards.
Air Raid is a rare Atari 2600 game. I decided I had very little chance of finding one at a garage sale or flea market, so finally fired it up via emulator. I was very happy I did, its a clever little game with compelling, but frantic gameplay.
