For this episode of the Saturday Frights Podcast, the Projectionist and myself tackle the 1986 Twilight Zone adaptation of Stephen King’s short story Gramma. If you had to pick one of the most frightening episodes of the ’80s Twilight Zone revival I think you would be hard pressed to find one more memorable than Gramma. For one thing there is an abundance of talent behind and in front of the cameras for this particular TV episode – not just Stephen King – but the fact that none other than Harlan Ellison wrote the teleplay for it. Plus you have the likes of Barret Oliver playing the main character in the episode, who was a pretty hot commodity at that time as he had just appeared in 1985’s D.A.R.Y.L. as well as Cocoon – to say nothing of the fact that he was also Bastian in 1984’s The NeverEnding Story!
As usual, my co-host and myself do our very best to give you not only interesting facts about Gramma but presenting a full synopsis too. As I point out in the show itself – if you happen to be lucky enough to have MeTV you can catch this awesome Twilight Zone episode yourself tonight… assuming of course that you catch it when it airs on the evening when this podcast goes live.
As always, the Projectionist has managed to put together some vintage audio treats for your listening pleasure. I think you’ll be excited to hear what we are going to be discussing on the next Matinee episode of the Saturday Frights Podcast – at the end of this show!
In addition we are joined by Rockford Jay – although not to spoil too much – I have to say that the news he shares with us isn’t very comforting. If you’ve been listening to the podcasts these last couple of episodes you probably already know that we have something of a vermin problem. A BIG and LARGE vermin problem as it turns out – so wish all of us that work in the Vault a little luck, okay?
Now then, come pay us a visit in the Vault as the Projectionist and myself discuss 1986’s Gramma!
