Retro Radio Memories Ep. 096 – The Three Ghosts

This new episode of the Retro Radio Memories Podcast marks the beginning of a marathon series – requested by the one and only Between The Pages! For the next couple of episode the only Old Time Radio show we will be focusing on is the long running and extremely popular The Shadow – with today’s episode entitled The Three Ghosts. A fitting title since this show was originally broadcast courtesy of the Blue Coal Company on October 31st of 1937. Although not to delve too far into spoilers I will reveal that the ghosts in question in this episode might not be exactly what you think!

The Three Ghosts features none other than Orson Welles as both socialite Lamont Cranston and his costumed-crime fighter persona of the Shadow. In this episode you will also hear future Bewitched actress, Agnes Moorehead, as Cranston’s confidant and companion – Margo Lane. While Welles sadly only performed on The Shadow radio series for a single year – as I point out in the podcast itself, this very episode is a prime example of why the series was so popular.

The story for The Three Ghosts involves Margo Lane and Lamont Cranston taking a break from protecting New York city from evil – or so they think. You see a friend of Lane’s named Caroline Snead is having troubles, she has a weak heart and the fact is her Husband, Professor Arthur Snead, is intent on investigating the supposedly haunted mansion they now call home. It doesn’t take the deductive powers of the Shadow to realize that something shady is going down but Mrs. Snead will be glad that dark avenger is on hand when all is said and done!

So dim the lights if you are able and join Lamon Cranston, Margo Lane and…the Shadow for the thrilling episode entitled The Three Ghosts – here on Retro Radio Memories!
