The Deadly Dummy - Inner Sanctum Mysteries - Retro Radio Memories

Retro Radio Memories Ep. 093 – The Deadly Dummy

Welcome back to a new episode of the Retro Radio Memories podcast – for your listening pleasure this week we have selected a classic offering from the Inner Sanctum series entitled The Deadly Dummy. One that as a bonus happens to concern something I’m not rather partial to – that of dolls and ventriloquist dummies. Although having said that I will say that this particular episode is a fine example of why the Inner Sanctum old time radio show was so very popular, running from 1941 until 1952. However as I briefly touch on in the episode itself – the series didn’t start as a radio show but as a publication from Simon & Schuster – known as the Inner Sanctum Mysteries.

The Deadly Dummy stars both Mason Adams as well as Elspeth Eric as the leads in the radio show. While both were seen on TV – Mason also made a break into motion pictures and made for television films like 1976’s God Told Me To, Revenge of the Stepford Wives, Lou Grant, and From the Earth to the Moon to name a few of his notable roles.

In The Deadly Dummy we are introduced to Steve Pierson (Adams) who unbeknownst to his employer, a popular ventriloquist known as the Great Marlowe – is having an affair with his Wife, Claire Marlowe (Eric). As if this wasn’t a big enough issue for Steve… he learns that Claire has the perfect plan to do away with her Husband once and for all.

So go get your favorite beverage and snacks – dim the lights if you are able and join us for a trip into the Inner Sanctum as we discover the terror of The Deadly Dummy.
