The Frighteners - 1996 - Saturday Frights Podcast

Saturday Frights Podcast Ep. 074 – The Frighteners

On this episode of the Saturday Frights podcast – the Projectionist and myself tackle 1996’s The Frighteners – a horror/comedy mix that failed to find success at the box office upon it’s original release but thankfully has developed a cult following over the years. As I always do on the podcast – I share my memories of first seeing The Frighteners in the theaters – in addition we offer a deep dive of information on how the film project came to be in the first place. As well as the more interesting facts on not just Director Peter Jackson but the likes of Executive Producer Robert Zemeckis, Michael J. Fox, Jeffrey Combs, and more.

The Frighteners manages to successfully walk the line between being a horror film and comedy – much of that is thanks to the talented cast that Jackson put together for the film. But I certainly think you have to give some credit to the movie’s composer – none other than Danny Elfman, his music is able to raise some moments in the film that might be considered merely good to the level of great.

This episode took a bit of work – the Projectionist and myself spent 12 hours writing the script for the show, recording and editing it together. We have attempted to provide a full synopsis of The Frighteners so be prepared for massive SPOILERS to say nothing of the fact that the episode itself clocks in at nearly an hour in length.
