Friends, welcome back to a new episode of the Saturday Frights Podcast – originally we had planned for this show to be all about Peter Jackson’s The Frighteners but when we lost Dick Miller on January 30th – we had to make this episode a tribute show. Of course when you are tackling the career of an actor like Dick Miller – it’s impossible to cover all of the 183 films and TV shows he appeared in. So instead, we decided to make this show a little lighter – more of an overview of his vast resume with occasional highlights. Because how do you pick a favorite role when Miller appeared in the likes of Bucket of Blood, The Terror, Gremlins, The Terminator, The Howling, Night of the Creeps, and Matinee to name a few?
The Projectionist, my co-host on the podcast has some interesting information about Miller’s early career as well as a few vintage audio treats for your listening pleasure. Furthermore we are joined by Rockford Jay – who graciously shares his own personal recollections on Dick Miller- in addition to revealing how horrible it is to work for the Projectionist.
As I mention in this episode there was a fantastic interview with Dick Miller and his Wife with the AV Club back in 2012 – you can read it by following the link here, although you should know there is some pretty salty language used throughout. Dick Miller didn’t seem to be the type of guy who would hold back from sharing his true feelings on the many talented actors and Directors he has worked with over the years.
If you have any suggestions for topics you would like for us to cover in a future episode – or possibly you have comments on the current show itself, email them to me at VicSage@Retroist.com. You can also contact me on Twitter and on Facebook. In addition I certainly hope you will take the time to visit the Saturday Frights Facebook Page. There you can find posts from Rockford Jay, Preston Griffith and myself on a daily basis.
The theme used at the beginning of this episode was provided by Peachy, if you have musical needs why not contact him at peachy@Retroist.Com. And be sure to “like” him on his Facebook Page.
Please join us as we celebrate the legacy that the actor left behind on our Dick Miller tribute episode of the Saturday Frights Podcast!
