Friends, you might have seen the news yesterday but it looks like Disney and Lucasfilm are unleashing a new animated series of sorts with Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures. I say of sorts as it appears starting on November 30 – on both StarWarsKids.com as well as the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel – six animated shorts will be released focusing on iconic moments in the Star Wars films. Additional shorts are set to debut beginning in December and on the official Star Wars site, it claims that these will be fan favorite character moments. I can only assume that means that we will be seeing the greatness of both Admiral Ackbar as well as Nien Nunb!
Galaxy of Adventures will roll out more animated shorts beginning in 2019 – although I’m not quite sure if they will always be animated moments with original dialogue and situations from the films or if it will eventually branch out to new material. However the entire point of these animated shorts is to introduce Star Wars to a younger audience – those who have yet to experience the awesomeness of the original trilogy – in addition to the prequels and latest films. As the vice president of franchise content for Lucasfilm, James Waugh, explained to Kristin Baver of the official site, Galaxy of Adventures is also designed for those children who aren’t old enough for some of the more scarier aspects of the Star Wars film franchise. Having said that though I definitely think, especially with these first six shorts coming out on the 30th – they have picked some of the most exciting moments from the franchise!
While the animated shorts might be intended for a younger audience, I strongly feel that for us older fans, we aren’t going to be disappointed in the finished product. Especially considering the art style used in the segments in the trailer below. In my opinion it looks to be a wonderful combination of the artwork of certain Little Golden Books with a sprinkling of anime style – case in point when Luke first ignites his Father’s lightsaber.
Yet again, from the official Star Wars site, there is a to be a celebration next year of the saga of the Skywalker family – in no small part because of Episode IX being released in December of 2019. You should definitely hop on over to the official site to read the whole interview but to sum up the point of the series – he said:
“With Episode IX coming in December, and being the conclusion of the Skywalker saga — the long journey over 40 years of storytelling comes to its end — Galaxy of Adventures walks through the great moments and themes of the stories that led us here and introduces a new generation to them, in time for many to see this finale.”
The Star Wars franchise continues to expand and entertain new generations of children and reminding us old timers why we love that Galaxy far, far away and set a long time ago. So make sure to check out Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures when it debuts tomorrow!
Now then, ready to see that trailer for Galaxy of Adventures?
