Friends, in a double whammy. We not only learned a few days ago about a new Tremors series. In addition we learned that it would not be picked up by SyFy. For myself I will certainly admit I am a huge fan of the 1990 film. It seems like someone doesn’t feel the new show is getting a fair shake though. Because a couple of days ago as well, the trailer for new Tremors pilot hit the internet!

This was after, I might add, that Kevin Bacon announced the cancellation on his Instagram account:
“Tremors Sad to report that my dream of revisiting the world of Perfection will not become a reality. Although we made a fantastic pilot (IMHO) the network has decided not to move forward. Thanks to our killer cast and everyone behind the scenes who worked so hard. And always keep one eye out for GRABOIDS!”
The actor has also stated he wasn’t responsible for the trailer being uploaded. Perhaps though this will help to get the series picked up? I could see the likes of Netflix or perhaps even Amazon Prime sweeping in to rescue this new Tremors.
Now the series was being described as a reboot. Not from the original film of course but it’s story would end up rewriting the canon of the franchise. There have been so far 6 sequels to the 1990 film. Not counting the 2003 TV series on SyFy. Making Michael Gross’ character of Burt Gummer the only character to appear in all sequels and related series.

In all honesty, I do not believe Michael Gross was appearing in the new Tremors show. However maybe he could be talked into revisiting the character in this new continuity if it gets picked up?
As a fan of Tremors, I hope at the very least the pilot is made available. It certainly appears as if the story follows an interesting arc for Valentine. While neither heroes from the first film could be considered the sharpest tools in the shed. It seems the new show hinted that Val is having a hard time not being the big thing any longer.
I do not know of course what future awaits the new Tremors series. At least the 1990 film remains a cult film, right?
