As is often the case when I am trying to find something retro or at the very least retro related to share, I am following a totally different and unrelated subject from what I end up deciding to write about. In the case of finding this incredible behind the scenes video clip from what I believe are the weekly workshops that Jim Henson held with his crew during pre-production of 1982’s The Dark Crystal, I was looking up some Dick Cavett interviews with Stan Freberg!

While in all honesty my heart is more aligned with Brian Froud and Jim Henson’s second partnership with 1986’s Labyrinth, I still very much love The Dark Crystal. I can remember seeing it for the first time at the Razorback theater, immediately getting sucked into the movie right from the first few seconds, thanks in no small part to Trevor Jones’ moving soundtrack for the film.

I also want to say that this was the one-sheet on display at theater when I saw it…there might even have been two different posters hanging up, one inside the lobby and the other in the vestibule.
