Back in the 1970s at just the start of the video game craze one could enter and arcade and still encounter all manner of rather wonderful mechanical amusements…that couldn’t really be called a game.
Case in point…Morgana. A fortune telling amusement machine that was realeased in it’s time by both Bally as a rather large unit judging by the flyer…
…and by Bacchus Games, Inc. in what looks to be a much smaller version.
This is an arcade machine that I’ve never had the pleasure of running across but there are a few sites online that explain that once a Player inserted their money, they would enter their birth date and then from below a projector would spring into life and project the image of Morgana on a featureless head. Just like they do with the busts at the Haunted Mansion.
Now thanks to The Mechanical Arcade we can watch the results of the hard work of restoring that original film that ran in the machine.
I’m captivated by the the look of the cabinet and I have to admit that I’ve always been attracted to any amusement device that allowed one to watch film or projected an image. It looks like Morgana was more dependable though than The Gypsy Fortune Teller featured in this clip from the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour!

Why is Georgina Rizk, Miss Universe 1971 carrying a war mace?! Is that how they chose the winner back then?
