Shout Factory Presents: The Bold Ones – The New Doctors: The Complete Series!

Beginning it’s broadcast in 1969 and lasting until 1973, The Bold Ones was a collection of TV shows on NBC that would rotate each week from The New Doctors, The Lawyers, The Protectors, and the Senator. As you can plainly see each show focused on a certain aspect of those that serve in the capacity of bettering our society.

It was The New Doctors though that held the line, lasting the longest of the offered rotating TV programs. It’s easy to see why since you had such powerhouse talent as E.G. Marshall (Creepshow), John Saxon (Enter the Dragon), David Hartman (Good Morning America), Robert Walden (All the President’s Men), and Julie Adams (Creature from the Black Lagoon).

Being released on DVD for the first time on March 1st, 2016 the complete series for The New Doctors will be made available thanks to our friends from Shout Factory and the Timeless Media Group.

The Bold Ones follows the lives of those that work at David Craig Institute for New Medicine, headed up by Dr. David Craig (Marshall) with his trusted friends and colleagues Dr. Theodore Stuart (Saxon) and Dr. Paul Hunter (Harman). Saxon left in the 4th season of the series which is when Institure welcomed Dr. Martin Cohen (Walden), with the beautiful and talented Julie Adams portraying David’s Wife, Lynn Craig, although she was only included in the second season of episodes.

Obviously the series is a medical Drama, with the cast tackling very real issues of the day…and still are issues for that matter. In the show the David Craig Institute was leading the charge for the advancement of treatments whether that be surgical or psychological. The 9 disc set that Shout Factory has put together contains all 43 episodes of the show and that includes the crossover with the popular Ironside series starring Raymond Burr (Perry Mason)!

One of the great things about watching this series now is seeing all of the awsome guest appearances from those that became quite famous like Ron Howard (Happy Days), Jane Wyman (Falcon Crest), Clu Gulager (Return of the Living Dead), Pat Hingle (Batman), Leslie Nielsen (The Naked Gun), Terry Carter (Foxy Brown), Jack Klugman (The Odd Couple), Kim Hunter (Planet of the Apes), Ross Martin (The Wild Wild West), William Shatner (Star Trek), George Standford Brown (Bullitt), L.Q. Jones (The Wild Bunch), Richard Dreyfuss (Jaws), DeForest Kelley (Night of the Lepus), and the list just goes on and on!

While there was literally a legion of celebrities in front of the camera, The New Doctors had an amazing number of big name talent behind the camera as well. Not just co-creator Stephen Bochco (NYPD Blue, Doogie Howser, M.D.) but Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon, The Goonies), John Badham (Wargames, Short Circuit), Leslie H. Martinson (Batman: The Movie, Small Wonder), Walter Doniger (Circle of Fear, Bat Masterson), John Newland (One Step Beyond, Whiz Kids) and Jerry Lewis…yep…THE legendary comedian.
