Toon In: Romie-0 And Julie-8 (1979)

Welcome back friends to a new installment of Toon In, a chance for us to share vintage or worthwhile animated shorts and specials for your viewing pleasure. With today being Valentine’s Day it seemed the best time to share this 1979 TV special produced by Canadian based Nelvana Limited entitled Romie-0 and Julie-8!

Romie-0 and Julie-8 as you can imagine is a Sci-Fi twist on William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, this time it’s androids however that take on the roles of star-crossed lovers. Although instead of warring households it is Romie-0 and Julie-8’s manufacturers, Mega Stellar Company and Super Solar Cybernetics that are trying their best to stop the two androids from finding true love.

Well…there is a third party throwing a wrench into the works, in this case a devious and greedy little man named Gizmo who wants Julie-8 all for himself. Will Romie-0 and Julie-8 be able to overcome the obstacles being laid out before them so they might finally be together? For that answer you’ll just have to Toon In and watch the special for yourself!

This was actually the third television special that Nelvana Limited released, with 1977’s A Cosmic Christmas being the first, followed by The Devil and Daniel Mouse. Like the second TV special, Romie-0 and Julie-8 features music that was composed by The Lovin’ Spoonful’s John Sebastian!

Did you happen to notice a few familiar space transports and places of importance in the cosmic junkyard?
