In 1986, the wise people at Pop Tarts released a Peanut Butter & Jelly flavor. As an enthusiastic fan of both Peanut Butter & Jelly AND Pop Tarts, I was all over this them. In fact, a large number of my breakfasts during 1987 and 1987 were two of these pop tarts heated up, wrapped in a paper towel and shoved in my coat pocket so I could eat them on the go.
Sadly they would eventually discontinue the flavor and I would go back to my old favorite, Unfrosted Blueberry. Still, whenever I am buying Pop Tarts and I see a new flavor, I keep hoping to see Peanut Butter & Jelly. The new Peanut Butter & Chocolate is a pretty decent modern alternative, but it is no true substitute for a good ol’ PB&J.
