Retro Records: Beneath The Planet Of The Apes (1974)

Beneath the Planet of the Apes - Power Record
As I stated in my post yesterday featuring Jason Edmiston’s “Trophies” artwork, I’m going to have to wait until next week to be able to catch the latest Planet of the Apes film. To help hold me over until that wonderful matinee I’ve been bouncing around the internet checking out all of the awesome Planet of the Apes fan art, records, comic books, toys, and games.

So for this Retro Records it just made perfect sense to share the 1974 Power Records adaptation of the sequel to the Planet of the Apes, Beneath the Planet of the Apes. For what it’s worth and I’m kind of the odd man out but this is my least favorite of the Planet of the Apes original films.

I will say this, I was pleasantly shocked that this adaptation meant for children actually contains the bleak ending of the second film! So consider that a spoiler warning if you haven’t seen the film for yourself.

While you are listening to this power record that was uploaded by Jon Knutson, take a moment and check out the fantastic artwork by Arvid Knudsen and Associates, especially at the end with the reveal of the worshipers. Awesomely frightening stuff!
