This Transformers Tyco Electric Racing Set glows in the dark!

Transformers Electric Racing

Growing up I had one friend who has a HUGE Transformers fan, the type who needed to have anything with an Autobot or Decepticon logo emblazoned upon it. It was great visiting his house, especially when he received a really cool glow-in-the-dark electric racing set.

I had forgotten about this until I caught the commercial below. I remember that we used to race in ‘car’ mode because changing into ‘robot’ mode used to cause far more crashes. I also remember that the glow-in-the-dark mode was rubbish – it worked for a few minutes and was briefly thrilling but if you’re going to race, you should really do it with the lights on.

Did anyone else get to race Natron and Freezon around one of these Tyco tracks?

  1. Very cool! I did indeed have this set. I recently found it again when I was helping to clean out my parents attic. Unfortunately, the track had gotten pretty broken up, but the cars were in great shape. I put those in with current Transformers collection. I think that I still have the instruction sheet. After 30 years of keeping up with Transformers, things can get pretty saturated. Finding more obscure artifacts like this really help to recapture my childhood memories. Thank you!

Never had this set. I was an AFX guy, and to this day, I still have some slot track and cars. I can’t imagine how these “Transformers” didn’t topple over on every turn. I’m glad that someone has finally addressed slot cars at the The Retroist site. Huzzah!
