Welcome back to a new installment of Retro Radio Memories! For your listening pleasure this week we have selected one of the few surviving radio shows from the popular series entitled The Hermit’s Cave.
The Hermit’s Cave began broadcasting back in 1930 and lasted until 1944 with a reported total of over 800 episodes airing during that time, though sadly only 40 survive today. The show certainly has a striking host as you can see from the ad above and his cackling will surely raise the hair on the back of your neck as he regales us with the story of the ‘House on Lost Man’s Bluff”.
Our chosen episode finds three travellers, Denton, Nan, and her brother Charles on a trip when their vehicle breaks down. A storm starts to build and while Denton who seems to have a perpetual case of being grumpy is able to get the vehicle going again they are forced to take shelter in an abandoned house, one that he had previously stayed in before on an earlier trip. It’s not long though before peculiar things begin to happen to the trio…like Denton laughing maniacally to himself as he secludes himself away from his friends.
A big thanks to Digital Deli Too for those awesome ads of the Hermit you see above!
