In my eyes there is a lot of retro love coming from Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 Pacific Rim, most of that being many of the things that I loved in my own youth. The Space Giants (Ambassador Magma), Godzilla, and the Shogun Warriors series from Marvel Comics to name a few. Something really clicked with me while watching the film, I believe that Guillermo is 6 years my senior but I’d be willing to bet he got down in the floor with various Mecha and Kaiju toys as a kid and had all manner of epic battles, luckily for us he decided to share that vision with the world.
It would also seem that composer Kuso-Chan and Mame-Chan were quite impressed with Guillermo’s film as they present a wonderful look at what it would have been like if a NES title have been released to coincide with feature film. They do so by taking the main theme from the movie by Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones) and Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave) and giving it an 8-Bit twist.
Um…can anyone translate that?
While we are talking about the talented Guillermo Del Toro, why not take a moment and watch this interesting interview on Q with Jian Ghomeshi?
