How do you sell pork and beans to a jaded and saturated market whose gob is already over-brimming with sweet and salty beans? How about with a simple commercial with a star-studded cast? That is exactly what Campbell’s did in the early 1970s with this gem that features three up and coming actors who would go on to some acclaim in a short while; James Woods, Fred Willard and Peter Boyle.
I am a little confused as to why Jame Wood’s part shuts down the commercial the way it does? Was West Virginia code for something in the early 1970s or was it just his enthusiasm? Either way, it is a great peek at the work of people who would go on to become household names.
