Saturday Frights: The Twilight Zone – The Night Of The Meek (1960)

Saturday Frights - Sean Hartter
Welcome back to all of you fans of fiendish film and TV! Those howls you hear from the creatures of the night need be no cause for alarm, you are safe down here with us in the Retroist vault! Us? Yeah, that’s the one and only Doug McCoy behind the concession stand and you can see the esteemed Daniel XIII manning the projector. We also have good friends to the Retroist site Claymation Werewolf as head usher and Phishbo3s in the ticket booth!

With last week’s Saturday Frights dealing with the more gruesome trappings of the Season it seemed like this week we should present the exact opposite. A soul warming Twilight Zone episode that originally aired on December 23, 1960 entitled “The Night of the Meek”. This episode stars Art Carney (The Honeymooners) as Henry Corwin, a down and out store Santa who due to current circumstances finds comfort at the bottom of a bottle so as to avoid the depressing fact that he can’t help the children and families he sees around him on a day to day basis. But just as the Twilight Zone has a tendency to deliver retribution to those that deserve it…and occasionally the innocent…it also has been known to come to the aid of those pure in heart in an effort to grant them their fondest wish.

So gather up your loved ones and join us in the Retroist Vault as we experience “The Night of the Meek” on a special installment of Saturday Frights.
