Welcome to Super Mario… Stock Car?

Have you ever performed a broad search on Ebay, just to see what is out there? I have, and the results always surprise me!

Like my recent search for ‘Yoshi’, the Nintendo character best known for his adventures with cookies, Mario and recently kart racing.

In amongst the usual merchandise was an unexpected find – a Yoshi’s Story 1:64 scale die-cast stock car.

Intrigued, I did a little research and found a whole range of cars from the Johnny Lightning “Racing Dreams (The Greatest Race Cars That Never Were!)” label, everything from McDonald’s to Zelda, with James Bond, KISS and Starfox models in-between.

In the one-off production runs, dated from the mid to late 90’s, there were only 4 Nintendo designs in the “Racing Dreams” label but they really are very nice and easily my favourites from those available.

Whilst browsing the Johnny Lightning Collector website I was pleased to find that they have also used other Nintendo properties, including this fetching 1999 design for Super Smash Brothers.

In a future update I hope to uncover some better imagery for this range and to find other similar Nintendo-branded die-casts.

All images are from the JL Collector website.
