Do You Remember The 1980’s Doctor Who Animated Series?

Well, you probably don’t recall the animated series as there was sadly never one produced. However Nelvana in the 1980s was working on such a TV series and thanks to the Tardis Date Core as well as fellow Retroist writer, Daniel XII, we can look on some of these wonderful concept art by Ted Bastien and wonder how such a series would have played out!

It certainly looks like the art style would have been influenced by Moebius.

Of course I guess it could have gone something like this fan made 13-minute Dr. Who Anime short that is on YouTube!

The creator of the short did everything on his own and though he used voice clips from the classic episodes he also supplied his own on a few characters. On his video he states: “13 minutes of the completed fake Doctor Who 80s-style anime. Drawn, animated and partially voiced by myself. Some bits are good, some bits are poor, but on the whole it turned out okay, I think. Enjoy! This is old school Who, so fans of the new reboot show may be confused by the fact that the Doctor is doing martial arts and Cybermen say “excellent.” Watch the classics and you’ll understand. You’ll also become almost instantly more handsome by watching classic Who.”

A nice way to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the good Doctor I would say!
