Orange Oscar the Grouch sings, “I Love Trash”

This segment from Sesame Street is so old that Oscar was still orange instead of his more familiar green. Oscar was only orange during season 1 of the show from 1969-1970. I am not sure why they changed him, maybe it was the natural evolution for grouches? They spend so much time in the trash that their fur gets stained green?

Sadly I have no orange Oscar memories from my youth, which I guess is good because I kind of like him in this color. He pops off the background more and would stand out more from his natural habitat.

While I never encountered orange Oscar I did like the green version and I had an album where Oscar sang this gem, “I Love Trash”. I would sing along with it all the time, even though I did not in fact love trash.

Oh, I love trash!
Anything dirty or dingy or dusty
Anything ragged or rotten or rusty
Yes, I love trash

This brings me back to a bad place. A place of obsession. I swear that I remember seeing an episode where Oscar showed a blueprint of the inside of his trash can that showed all the various levels and amenities inside. I have never been able to find even a mention of this, let alone a picture. Am I crazy? Did I imagine this in a sugar-induced hallucination?
