King Kong Escapes (1968)

King Kong Escapes - 1967
While I wasn’t around when King Kong Escapes first made the theater circuit I did get to catch it in my youth at our local Drive-In, it was actually part of a Godzilla movie marathon being held that weekend. While I remember most of the Godzilla films presented that night I’m rather hazy on the details of King Kong Escapes except for the awesomeness that was Mechani-Kong!

The film was a co-production from the legendary Toho studios and Rankin and Bass (The Hobbit, Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer) and in fact was loosely based on the Rankin/Bass ‘The King Kong Show’.

I’m not sure if we are going to be seeing Mechani-Kong in the upcoming Pacific Rim…maybe in the sequel?
