Saturday Frights – The Twilight Zone: What You Need (1959)

Saturday Frights - Sean Hartter
Welcome back to another installment of Saturday Frights! This week we have the classic Twilight Zone episode that we mentioned last week with the Tales of Tomorrow post, entitled “What You Need” and it deals with an elderly man, a street peddler that delivers what a person needs moments before they realize they need it. Not what they want mind you but what they need, the problem is a crook takes notice of this and decides to exploit the street peddler’s gift.

Pedott, the kindly street peddler in the story is played by TV and movie veteran Ernest Truex, he would also appear in another classic Twilight Zone offering three years later in the episode entitled “Kick the Can”. The crook, Fred Renard, is played by Steve Cochran who played alongside James Cagney in White Heat. Sadly after starting his own production company he sailed to Guatemala in his yacht to look for suitable filming locations, but died of a lung infection before reaching land on June 15th, 1965.

So take a moment for yourself, lower the lights and grab your favorite snack and tasty beverage as you join us for awhile with Saturday Frights and the Twilight Zone.

As always I want to give a huge thank you to Sean Hartter for the awesome artwork you see displayed up top.
