If you’re a Star Trek fan who got a bookstore giftcard over the holidays, and you’re not sure what to spend it on, check out the Star Trek Vault: 40 Years from the Archives by Scott Tipton.
This is more than just a cocktail book that provides a retrospective of the films and TV series. The tome also includes details about popular events and merchandise, with a key clever addition. Many pages include reproductions of period pieces, such as a coloring book from 1966, stickers from the 1979 Motion Picture, or the invitation to the 1997 wrap party for Deep Space Nine (scientifically proven to be the best of the Star Trek series). The book wraps up with some faint praise for Enterprise, but sadly doesn’t cover the JJ Abrams reboot. These days, I do most of my reading on a Kindle, but the Star Trek Vault is a great example of the tactile elements an e-reader just can’t match. It’s worth a look from any Star Trek enthusiast.
