The Return of…Rom the Space Knight?!

A couple of days ago Comic Book Resources posted some wonderful artwork from Bryan Hitch (The Authority, The Ultimates) for the upcoming Marvel Comics event entitled ‘The Age of Ultron’.

Follow the link provided up top for a clearer image of the panels but I’m going to assume this wall of photos are the heroes who didn’t survive Ultron taking over the entire world and to be honest I’m not sure if this series is set solely in the Ultimates universe or regular continuity.

You might be wondering what this might have to do with anything Retroist related, right? Well, Eagle-eyed readers like those over at Comics Alliance spotted…Rom the Space Knight!

Comic Alliance also reported last week that Hasbro has filed for ROM trademark…so could this not only mean we will see ROM toys on shelves again? Or better yet perhaps the murky legal waters surrounding the case will be cleared and we can finally get our hands on those wonderful Bill Mantlo Marvel Comics stories of old?

Let us hope so!

A Rom return is much needed!

Though they seemed to have zigged the original design in that pic, probably for legal reasons.

And seeing that gloriously reverential commercial, I just had this notion of a live-action Rom The Spaceknight Action Figure series, with real 12″ figures moved around a foggy terrain by black-gloved action.
All 80s era 12″ figures could apply, so Rom could end up facing Luke Skywalker or Gene Simmons.
    Maybe even Bionic Bigfoot.

S’cuse me while I dream the dream and be a kid again.

But seriously, bring back our Space Knight, pronto!

It would be great to see this toy, and/or comic, return. ROM was a Parker Brothers toy and Parker Brothers is now owned by Hasbro. I’m not sure how that legal stuff works when it comes to the trademarking.

Sniff. Somehow over the years, I have lost a box of comics that had all my issues of Rom, Micronauts and Shogun Warriors. All three were really well done in my opinion. My friend had Rom and he was cool, but limited play potential, unless you had the big Shoguns or fist-shooting Godzilla, which my friend Mitch did (and probably still does).
