An Influential 80s Arrid Commercial

I was raised by the TV. My parents worked a lot and weren’t home most of the time, so my socialization was pretty much left to the television. It was TV shows and commercials that established most of my world view and values.

One of the commercials which contributed a lot to my socialization was this one:

I found this commercial on one of the Commander USA episodes on YouTube I mentioned in the forum. I think the girl is Amy Steel from Friday the 13th Part 2 and April Fool’s Day, but I can’t be sure. What I am sure of is that her line about not wanting a guy that smells made me forever afraid of reeking the presence of women. I don’t know that I ever used Arrid, but after seeing this commercial over and over and over on USA, I made sure to use something. Even today I make sure not to smell around Hot Pink Heather, especially when we’re “close”.

Doug is a child of the 80s who was raised in Ohio and is now living the life of oblivion in the bay area of California.

  1. Doug…I’m not sure that is Amy Steel either…something about the nose to me. But I could obviously be wrong. I totally remember this commercial though, thanks for sharing it!

  2. Atari Adventure Square says:

Y’know, I’m pretty sure that *is* Amy Steel, of the F13th era.

Also, something about disliking sweaty men and being chased by a murderous Jason…

She stood out in the F13th series as the best of the victimized bunch, imho.
