Maw and Paw

Maw & Paw Cartoons by Walter Lantz

The recent post about Chilly Willy got me to thinking about other Walter Lantz cartoons, including my favorite series: Maw & Paw. There are only five cartoons in this series, which is a real shame because they’re really good. I don’t know exactly why I like them so much, they just have a certain “something” about them.

Those of you who remember these cartoons might remember the one where the pig gets kidnapped (pignapped?) by the clan of fat, bearded, red-haired guys, or the one where Paw comes home late and tries a bunch of convoluted stunts to get back into the house without his wife noticing.

…Or you might remember this one. This is the one where the pig answers the phone and wins the family a new car. In stereotypical hillbilly fashion, they run into all kinds of antics while trying to figure out this new-fangled contraption. This also happens to be the first cartoon in the series.

There’s also a sort of prototype cartoon which was a war propaganda flick, “Pass the Biscuits Mirandy”. It’s not officially part of the series & has a lot of difference from it, but it also has a lot of similarities.

  2. Awesome post, Drahken! I’ve sadly never seen this series of animated shorts before, but I have to wonder…does this have any ties to the Ma and Pa Kettles films?
