Real Steel (2011)

When I first saw the teaser trailer for Real Steel…about nine months ago my curiosity was piqued. I felt though that it was similar in spirit to a fantastic episode of the Twilight Zone, Steel, which featured Lee Marvin and was written by the legendary Richard Matheson. It turns out that on October 7th we will be seeing another piece of entertainment inspired by that Richard Matheson short story, though Real Steel looks to “expand” the universe and play up the action…I just have a feeling that it’s going to keep the heart of the short story.

Here is the theatrical trailer.

Plus a Featurette which uses a lot of the same material from the trailer of course…but also offers a whole bunch more shots of Robot Boxers knocking each other around…not to mention seeing Hugh Jackman getting boxing pointers from Sugar Ray Leonard! Careful though there are some scenes that might be considered “Small Spoilers” in it.

Now even if sadly the movie turns out not to be that good, though some of the websites I’ve visited in the last couple of days state they are already working on a sequel, at least it allows Richard Matheson’s name to get out there on the new release shelves of bookstores. Steel: And Other Stories will be available on October 4th in time for the movie’s release that Friday…if you’ve never had the pleasure of reading any of Matheson’s fantastic work this would be a great time to do yourself a favor and go pick it up…and make sure you grab his I Am Legend novel because it’s one of the best Vampire stories ever. Ever.

A big thanks to IMP Awards for the Real Steel poster and to the Real Steel’s Movie Channel over on YouTube for the excellent videos.
