Roller Boogie (1979)

The great thing about the sixteen hour shifts I work at my job is that come around three AM you can sometimes find the most…interesting…films on television. I missed the beginning of Roller Boogie but I’m pretty sure I caught up pretty quick with the storyline.

I believe that the all-knowing Wikipedia can best sum up the story of the film for you:
“The film is set in the Venice, Los Angeles, California area at the height of the quad roller skating fad. Two characters, Bobby James (Bray) and Terry Barkley (Blair), fall in love while boogie skating to disco music. Along the way they must thwart a powerful mobster who wants the land their favorite roller rink sits on and compete in the Boogie Contest.”

Thanks to IMP Awards for the original poster seen above and to Deadenddrivein for the trailer that was posted on YouTube!

If you are to believe Lebonpost who upload this scene as well, this is this best part of the movie.

  1. Atari Adventure Square says:

We had a roller-disco in town around that time and it wasn’t nearly as boogie-tastic.

Then again, the pinball machine was the only thing that kept me from splattering to the ground, in a very un-disco fashion.
My friends skated circles around me, and Disco Duck was a big hit.

Yeah, some things feel less nostalgic than others.

    But this movie is great.
Also the TV movie with Marcia Brady, also set in a roller-skate dance scene.
