As the 1980s drew to a close, Nickelodeon embarked on new directions in programming. They would turn to original programming that would be geared towards a slightly older audience. I was still watching a lot of television at this point and I remembering turning on channel 30 and watching Nick’s second original live action tv show, Hey Dude. I watched only the first season of the show, but it would go on for a run of 5 seasons and 65 episodes. I have not watched the show since, but recently picked up a copy of the first season which was recently released through Shout! Factory.
Placing this in my DVD player was likes stepping back in time. It is a show I had almost completely forgotten, yet as soon as that twangy intro starting playing I was instantly transported back in time to the late 1980s. Laying on the couch in my family’s living room eating cold pizza, not a care in the world, dreaming of summers I never had on the Bar None Ranch.
